First Aid Training Artical

First Aid At Work Information

People at work can suffer injury or sudden illness. It is important that employers have made arrangements to ensure their employees receive immediate attention if they are injured or taken ill at work. The Training Co. can help provide this, as it offers course in various aspects of first aid in a fun, relevant and entertaining way.

First Aid at Work courses are due for a shakeup – it’s been some 25 years since any serous changers -the current First Aid in the Workplace provision is based on Regulations over 25 years old. Twenty five years ago the workplace was considerably different, heavy machinery was commonplace and a Health and Safety culture was next to nonexistent. Today accidents still occur but thankfully are rare in frequency and normally less serious in nature. However, we now have an ageing workforce which has its own problems.

In 2002 the HSE started a review of re-matching the needs of industry with first aid provision. After a somewhat of a faulty start the HSE are now moving forward with a range of changes.

Changes
  1) The commonly known Appointed Person one day course (currently unregulated) is to come under the control of the HSE. It will be called
Emergency First Aid At Work (EFAW). The HSE recommends a yearly refresher course (3 hrs) and a repeat of the full EFAW course every three years
(6 hrs - mandatory). Trainees completing the EFAW course will be considered as first aiders.
  2) The current 4 day First Aid at Work course (FAW) will be reduced to three days (18hrs). The HSE likewise recommends a yearly refresher (3 hrs) plus a
two day (12 hr) requalification course every three years (mandatory).
  3) The requirement for an Appointed Person remains. However, it is unlikely that any training will be required except for basic instruction in calling the
emergency services and keeping the FA Kit stocked etc.

Funny how time flies when you are having fun, working out – or got your mind stuck into an ambition you want to realise! Well it’s been nearly a year since the first steps were taken to launch The Training Co. – oh and time does fly. Specialists in staff training, we have grown steadily to gain the respect of many companies who enjoy the benefit of productive training – that’s not to say ‘turn up; sit an exam and go’ – but become involved, laugh and learn and more importantly use the new skill to benefit themselves and employers, therefore making it value for money.

Who said health and safety was boring! We didn’t! With interactive audience participation devices, everyone gets a say; video which makes you sit up and think; a direction which gets you talking and a delivery that you remember. First Aid courses have been described as ‘performances’ – someone even gets a Drama Award. We understand that training can be a strain on a budget – but have you see our prices! With the money saved, you can now afford to have the training embedded in the workplace by using our services in house.

Don’t take our word for it, with clients like Granada TV, Marriott Hotels, Raddison Hotels, Bolton and Tameside councils and a growing list we live by our reputation and grow with your business.
